Detailed Case Study

Turning Data into Action with Grid Flow: Automating Utility Workflows at Scale

One of our clients, a utility with operations spread across Europe and Asia implemented Grid’s BPM (Business Process Management). With the collaboration, they streamlined task management, real-time event management, team collaboration and ensured greater compliance adherence.

At a Glance

Key problems faced by the utility:

  • Disparate systems creating delays and coordination roadblocks
  • No near-real time workflow response to anomalies and events, such as overvoltage or overconsumption incidents
  • Tickets and tasks were not generated across systems during breaches and thresholds — WFM, consumer billing, Jira, etc

GridFlow in Numbers

  • 800,000+ meters connected managed within utility
  • Fast querying of high volume data in < 3 seconds
  • 15 business rules defined based on metering data
  • Implementation and live testing in < 3 weeks

GridFlow (BPM Engine) in Action

Grid comes with a no-code framework and a BPM layer, enabling the utility to seamlessly define business rules as per needs.

The result—-- timely processing, integration and management of metering data.

API Integration

Every single data point was synchronized across systems within the network. Our client achieved greater accuracy in reporting and billing data.

Business Rule Creation

15 specific business rules were established using Grid’s advanced query engine. Each rule was designed specifically to trigger workflows and actions whenever thresholds were breached.

APIs and SFTP Exports

Task creation was automated across three systems — Jira, consumer billing and WFM (workforce management). This led to improved stakeholder collaboration and alignment in combined business efforts.

Benefits of Implementing Grid

Our client experienced key benefits, including but not limited to:

  • Better resource allocation: Routine items like task allocation were now automated across different systems. Customer service or field operation teams also received automated alerts in case of breaches.

  • Enhanced response times: Our BPM solution automated ticket generation in response to anomalies, like overvoltage or device malfunctions. The utility experienced a 30% reduction in critical event escalation.

  • Accurate data processing: The utility was able to improve the quality of data coming from 800,000+ meters.  The partnership also minimized errors in reporting or billing processes by up to 25%.
